Kenya Prisons emerged victorious in the just concluded Africa Volleyball Club Championships after beating Kenya Pipeline three straight sets on Saturday, to end the competition without conceding a single set.
The victory seemed easy for the warders who dominated throughout the match to put behind play-offs memories of the Kenya cup. Kenya Prisons were on a class of their own and went to humiliates Kenya Pipeline 3-0 (25-20, 27-25 and 25-16).
The win guarantees Kenya Prisons a slot in this year’s club world cup in Doha Qutar as African representatives.
Meanwhile Kenya Prisons coach David Lungaho thanked his team saying they had put on an excellent performance after that historic victory and lauded Kenya Pipeline saying he respects the Kenya champions. He added, “We are going to Doha Qatar for the third time in a row. Our previous outings have not been pleasing, but with the squad now, we are unstoppable.”
Rwanda’s sole representatives at the events, Rwanda Revenue Authority also suffered at the hands of the warders when they lost three straight sets in the quarter finals stage. Nonetheless, they finished at position six, having finished eighth in the precedent tournament the previous year.
Kenya Prisons have now won the Africa club championship for three consecutive times and four times in general. They will represent the continent in Doha for the world club next year.
