Ex-Amavubi Stars Vs Ex-Cranes (Ex-Internationals)

Regional stadium, Nyamirambo – 4pm

Rivalry will be at its best when former Amavubi Stars and Uganda Cranes players face-off in an international friendly match due to be played on Thursday at Stade de Kigali.

The match will be staged as part of paying tribute to former Amavubi team coach Jean Marie Ntagwabira and skipper Patrick Mafisango.

The Rwanda ex-international Olivier Karekezi who will be captaining the ex-Amavubi team told KT Sports on Wednesday, “The match is a tribute to the late Amavubi coach Jean Marie Ntagwabira and midfielder Patrick Mafisango. The ex-internationals will give donations to Ntagwabira and Mafisango’s family as a sign of solidarity and recognition for their contribution to the development of football in Rwanda,” he added.

The Rwandan side is composed of mainly players who helped the country qualify for the 2004 Africa Nations Cup finals in Tunisia after edging the Cranes at Namboole thanks to Jimmy Gatete lone strike.

Long serving skipper Olivier Karekezi, Eric Nshimiyimana, BokotaLabamaKamana and ex-SC Villa and KCCA centre forward SaidiAbediMakasi are also part of the Rwanda side.

The Cranes team which arrived in Kigali on Wednesday is constituted of David Obua, James Odoch, George Semwogerere, Hassan Mubiru, Abubaker Tabula, Vincent Kayizi, Philip Ssozi, Hakim Magumba and Joseph Kabagambe among others.

The game is also expected to inspire upcoming footballers who have never met the ex-internationals, and only watched them on TV competing in several AFCON qualifiers and the eventual 2004 Tunis AFCON final which was Rwanda’s maiden appearance.
