Belgian Yanicke Gullaume needed only two sets to win the innagural Kerala Hunters badminton tournament held at Utexrwa in Gikondo.
The Belgian overcame a spirited Rakesh Nair 21-14, 21-18 in a two hour game.
Gullaume took an unprecedented eight love lead in the opening set to eventually run off with a ten point margin as crowd favourite Rakesh struggled to keep up with his silkness and speed.
Rakeesh came out stronger in the second set as he tried to force a tie breaking third set taking his first lead of the game at 14-13.
With the lead exchanging hands in the early exchanges, Gullame eventually pulled awat at 18 all to serve for the match at 20-18.
He made no mistake at game point despite coming through a hard fought marathon for the tournament decider as Rakeesh put on a spirited challenge.
Gullaume had earlier defeated Kazim Patel as Rwanda’s sole representative Arnold Kwizera was ejected in the semi-finals by Rakeesh.
The tournament was organized by Kerala Hunters cricket club and sponsored by Britania and Utexrwa industries.
