Cassa Mbungo is being tasked to guide the club to this year’s Cecafa Kagame Cup which starts on august 9-24 in Kigali.Coach Andre Cassa Mbungo has been offered a three-year contract deal by Police FC, replacing Ugandan Sam Ssimbwa who resigned on Friday last week.

The Police Fc Spokesman Jean de Dieu Mayira confirmed the development on Sunday night, saying, “We have a new coach in Cassa Mbungo. He is a winner and we believe he will raise the level of our team,”

“His task is to build a strong squad which will win trophies in the coming years and we believe the mission is attainable considering his track record,”

An excited Mbungo also said, “The club wanted me and I have sighed for them. They (Police) have handed me three year-deal,”

“I have a big task at hand because I have to prepare for the upcoming Cecafa Kagame Cup. I want to build a strong team and I will do what it takes to achieve my goals,” added the 2013 Peace Cup winner with AS Kigali.

Police is placed in Pool C of the Cecafa Kagame Cup championship alongside defending champions Vital’O from Burundi, Sudan’s El Merreikh and Benadir from Somalia.

Rayon Sports is in group A alongside five-time Kagame Cup winners Young Africans from Tanzania, Coffee [Ethiopia], Atlbara [South Sudan] and KMKM [Zanzibar].

Arch rivals APR are pooled in Group B alongside Kenyan giants Gor Mahia, Uganda’s KCCA, Flambeau de l’est of Burundi and Djibouti’s Telecom.

The Cecafa Kagame Cup tournament 2014 edition will run from Friday August 8th to 24 as teams seek to be the regional giants.

Ssimbwa resigned after one-year in charge of the Cops side which he failed to guide to any silverware as promised when he replaced Serbian Goran Kopunovic in May 2013.

Cassa Mbungo was instrumental last season for the Kigali City sponsored club. Besides helping AS Kigali finish third in the Turbo King Football league this season, he also helped the club reach the 1/8th round of the Africa Confederation Cup on its maiden appearance in the continental club football.
