Joe Habineza is back

Ambassador Joseph Habineza

Ambassador Joseph Habineza has been appointed Minister of Sports and Culture, the post he held between 2004 to 2011

Habineza who has been Rwanda’s high commissioner to Nigeria was appointed in a cabinet reshuffle undertaken on Thursday after the appointment of new Prime Minister AnastaseMurekezi.

Habineza said on his twitter account on Thursday, I don’t know how to express my gratitude to HE @PaulKagame. My reappointment as Minispoc shows trust. I promise to deliver &make Rwandans proud,”

In 2011, Habineza resigned due to personal reasons but this was orchestrated after photos began circulating on the internet showing him in intimate poses with several women.

The photos, which MrHabineza says were taken in 2008, were published on Sunday on an opposition website called Le Prophete.

Most of the 11 photos show the minister dancing or cuddling with one woman in particular in a well-furnished room. The person who posted them said he was a university student and wanted to show how the government was spending lavishly.

However, Habienza’s resign saw a major boost in the sporting sector with major milestones registered. Itw as when the Amavubi U17 qualified for the first time to compete in the FIFA U17 World Cup finals held in Mexico. Rwanda also were given hosting rights for U-17, U-10 and CHAN.

Different national teams ranging from football, basketball, volleyball and athletics shone on African and global showpiece, a feat which made Rwanda a strong sporting nation few years after the 1994 Tutsi Genocide.
