Former Police FC assistant coach Alphonse Gatera has joined Rusizi-based side Espoir Fc on a two-year contract as they seek to enhance preparations for next season’s league.
Gatera replaces Emmanuel Ruremesha who ditched the South Western Province based Rusizi FC for league archrivals of Gicumbi FC two months ago.
Former Mukura VS interim coach Gatera joins the Rusizi district-based Espoir on a two-year renewable contract and is set to start assembling players this week for preparations of the forthcoming season according to team vice president Godfroid Kamuzinzi.
“Gatera is our new coach officially and we have offered him a two-year contract. He is starting the job later this week by assembling players and making new signings where it is needed so that we can build a strong squad for next season,” Kamuzinzi told Times Sport on Monday.
However, the club’s new coach Gatera was not in Rusizi to sign the contract due to personal emergencies although both parties have already finalized talks.
The contract was sent to him via email and he is set to sign it today (Tuesday) and return it via email too.
Gatera was assistant coach of Police FC under Serbian Golan Kopunovic before switching to Mukura VS also as assistant under Burundian-born Cedric Kaze who resigned last season five matches before the national league winds-up.
Among other crucial signings, Gatera will have to look for proper replacements for goalie Shamiru Bate who headed to AS Kigali and Clement Mutunzi who switched to newly topflight division promoted side based in Rwamagana district, Sunrise FC.
