THE national women team left Kigali for Lusaka this morning to face Zambia in a build-up match aimed at preparing them for the upcoming Africa Women Championship qualifier against Nigeria due on May 24 in Kigali.

She-Wasps face She-polopolo on Tuesday as head coach Grace Nyinawumuntu seeks to find a winning formula against a sparkling Nigeria’s Super Falcons’ side in the second round of the qualification campaign.

They left Kigali early Monday dawn aboard Ethiopian Airways to Addis Ababa, where they are expected to connect to Lusaka before noon.

Nyinawumuntu said on Sunday, “Our game against Zambia will be complex but it’s a good platform to access my players before heading to Nigeria,”

“Zambia plays more like Nigeria and I believe this game will leave us with two or three key points to learn from them which will be vital in preparing for our next qualifier,” added the AS Kigali women club head coach.

Rwanda is planning to face Ghana before they play away to Nigeria in the return leg in Lagos.

Both Rwanda and Zambia are preparing for the African Women Championship in Namibia which also serves as the qualifying competition for the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Canada.

Zambia beat Tanzania to set up a final round clash against neighbours Zimbabwe, who also ousted Botswana in the earlier round.

Rwanda saw off Kenya in the first round of qualifiers a month ago on an away-goal advantage after a 2-2 aggregate.
