Rayon confident on qualification

Rayon Head Coach Luc Eymael

RWANDA league champions Rayon Sports have expressed confidence that they will win the return leg against AC Leopards de Dolisie of Congo Brazzaville on Saturday to  qualify to the first round of the CAF Champions League.

Head coach Luc Eymael said, “We will win the return leg match in Kigali on Saturday to move to the next round of the champions league,”

“We are happy with the first leg performance away on foreign soil because it was really hard work exhibited by my team against a team which is on the same standard such as TP Mazembe and other top African clubs,”

“AC Leopards had prepared the first leg at all fronts to the extent that even referees never performed to their best. The referee was too lenient on the Congolese side to ensure that they win and that’s why our goalie Jean Luc Ndayishimiye was sent off and even awarded them a penalty which they failed to convert,”

“A goalless draw away gives us an advantage to prepare our team very well such that we can win the return leg. It will not be easy but since we will play behind our supporters, we will employ an offensive approach in search for goals and nothing will stop us from beating AC Leopards,” added Eymael.

Rayon Sports will miss the services of goalie Ndayishimiye who will be serving a one-match ban suspension and midfielder Aphrodis Hategikimana who suffered a knee injury.

Gerard Bikorimana is a major replacement while Eymael will have to look up to Djihad Bizimana, Robert Ndatimana and Jacques Cyubahiro to fill Hategikimana’s slot.

The blues who are taking part in the Africa Champions League for the first time since 2005 and of recent, must force a 1-0 win over AC Leopards or let fate be decided on penalty shoot-outs if they play another barren drawn on Saturday.

Should Rayon defeat the Congolese outfit, they will face the winner between 1ero Agosto of Angola and Lioli from Lesotho in the first round.

The first round matches will be played between February 28 and March 9, while the final qualifying-round matches are slated for March 21-30.
