Africa Women’s Championship
Rwanda vs. Kenya
KENYA women’s team arrived in the country yesterday ahead of Sunday’s qualifying match for the 9th edition of the African Women’s Championships against Rwanda due at Stade de Kigali.
The team which arrived aboard Kenya Airways has been accommodated at Alpha Palace hotel and will hold their training session today at Ferwafa turf.
Speaking to Kenyan media, head coach Justine Okiring is confident his side will post good results against Rwanda this weekend.
“We have camped for only two days at the Safaricom Stadium and I believe we will give our best,” Okiring told Kenya’s FeverPitch on Tuesday
He added: “I hope for positive results before the return leg. Most of my players are experienced as they play in the national league. We have to work with whatever we have for now and maybe later plan how to prepare well for the return match in two weeks,” Okiring noted traveling earlier will be an added advantage for the players to acclimatise before the match day.
Okiring has recalled some key players who took part in the under-20 Fifa World Cup qualifiers in 2012. They include captain of the team Neddy Atieno, Mural Auma and Wendy Achieng’.
Starlets will be among 25 countries fighting for the seven tickets for the finals in Namibia from 11-25 October.
The squad: Anneta Waweru, Vivian Akinyi, Rosemary Aluoch, Joyce Anyago, Doris Anyango, Julia Gathoni, Slyvia Wasilwa, Esther Nandika, Euphresia Khakasi, Ann Aluoch, Jacky Ogol, Martha Karimi, Mural Auma, Wendy Achieng, Pauline Musungu, Agnes Mutio, Esse Akida, Neddy Atieno, Elizabeth Ambogo, Irene Momanyi.
