Burkina Faso international Alain Traore was robbed by armed men while travelling to his home town Bobo-Dioulasso on Sunday to spend the festive season with his family.

The Lorient striker, who turns 25 on January 1, 2014, was stopped by about 10 individuals carrying long guns and asked to surrender all valuable items and cash in his possession, a police report said.

The bandits made away with five million CFA francs (R110,000, €7,600) in cash but did not hurt the player, who was left in his car shocked and stranded.

Traore is brother to 18-year-old Chelsea attacking midfielder Betrand Traore, who signed an official contract with the Premier League side last October.
