Gyan fails to make CAF

Asamoah Gyan

Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan failed to make CAF’s final three-man shortlist for the 2013 Player of the Year.

The Al Ain striker was one of 10 players who were shortlisted following voting from members of the Technical & Development and the Media Committees.

But he could not make to the final stage.

Ivory Coast duo Yaya Toure of Manchester City and Galatasaray’s Didier Drogba for the second successive year made the cut.

Nigeria and Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel is the other contender.

Ghana youth international Ebenezer Assifuah, who won the Golden Shoe Award at the 2013 FIFA U20 World Cup in Turkey, is one of three players for Most Promising Talent.

The FC Servette player must fend off competition from Kelechi Iheanacho named Most Valuable Player at the 2013 FIFA U17 World Cup and Egypt youngster Salah Gomaa.

The winner will be announced on 09 January 2014 at the GLO-CAF Awards Gala to be held in Lagos Nigeria.
