Rwanda Football Federation, Ferwafa has confirmed its interest to host next year’s Cecafa Challenge as a rehearsal of preparing Amavubi Stars ahead of the Africa Nations Championships [CHAN] which will be held in Kigali.
The Ferwafa chairman, Vincent Degaule Nzamwita told the media on Monday that they are very interested in hosting the tournament and would convince Cecafa secretariat to hand them the hosting rights.
“We have not yet been confirmed as hosts but we are very much interested and we hope it would be a good platform to help our national team assess its shape ahead of the continental championship,” added Nzamwita.
In last year’s edition held in Nairobi in December, Amavubi were knocked out by hosts and eventual winners Kenya after 1-0 loss.
As the 2013 CHAN tournament comes to an end this month, the hosting mantle will be passed over to Rwanda to host the fourth edition.
CAF president Issa Hayatou endorsed Rwanda to host the 2016 CHAN edition in January 2011 after the country staged two successful youth continental tournaments in a space of three years including the 2009 U-20 Africa youth championship as well as the U-17 championship this year.
