AS Kigali vs winner Rwamagana/UNR

DEFENDING champions AS Kigali will face an easy start to the 2014 Peace Cup tournament which has been scheduled to start on March 15.

AS Kigali, last year’s winners will face the winner between Rwamagana and UNR in the 1/16th round of the Peace Cup tournament.

In the drawing of lots held on Friday at Ferwafa headquarters, APR and Rayon Sports were drawn against second division clubs Akagera and Sunrise in the knockout phase.

It’s only in the 1/8 and 1/4 were clubs will play two-legs.

Rayon Sports, who won the national league title last season might face AS Kigali in the 1/8 with the winner due to face APR in the 1/4 should all clubs manage to progress to the last eight. The winner between Rayon Sports and APR in the quarter finals will face SC Kiyovu in the semi final.

Police also face a stern against Mukura in the 1/8 should they manage to progress. The final will be played on July 4.

Last year, AS Kigali made light work of AS Muhanga, earning a 3-0 to lift the Peace cup title.

Bodo Ndikumana and Hamidu Ndayisaba scored for the Kigali city council side and the first half ended with AS Kigali leading to 2-0.

AS Kigali were given Frw 7m for winning the trophy while AS Muhanga got Frw 5m.

Imbuto Foundation who were the sponsors injected Rfw 97m into the annual football tournament, which was renamed “Peace Cup against Malaria”, but they are yet to confirm their pledge of extending their commitment to support the annual tournament.
