The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has clearly stated that SC Villa duo; Godfrey Walusimbi and Emmanuel Okwi are not legible to play in CHAN championship to be held in South Africa next year.
Okwi and Walusimbi are now playing for SC Villa although they are still attached to foreign clubs Étoile du Sahel (Tunisia) and CS Don Bosco (DR Congo), respectively.
One of the tournament regulations states that “exclusively featuring players who are active in the national championships are qualified to play in the on-going season’
The Federation had quoted this rule for FUFA CEO, Edgar Watson, to explain that “Emmanuel Okwi and Godfrey Walusimbi are legible for this tournament’’.
However, the two players do belong to none of the clubs playing in the local (Uganda) League.
The players like Simon Okwi, Daniel Nsubuga (Victoria University), Kalanda Frank (URA), Olaki Francis (Soana), Oyeroth Daniel (BIDCO) and Ngobi Umar of Express FC are the players who may fill up Emmanuel Okwi’s role in Cranes during CHAN.
Namwanja Simon (Proline), Muleme Isaac (Victoria University), Ismail Kazibwe (Vipers) and Habib Kavuma are likely replacements for Godfrey Walusimbi.
