Mbwana Elly Samatta of TP Mazembe challenges Samuel Kyere of Berukum Chelsea
Mbwana Ally Samatta of Tp Mazembe, Samuel Kyere of Berekum Chelsea
and Thomas Ulimwengu have joined Tanzania’s 2013 Cecafa Cup team in Kenya.
The duo joined the Kilimanjaro Stars on Sunday barely 24 hours after featuring for Mazembe in the 2013 CAF Confederation Cup final in Lubumbashi.
Samatta scored Mazembe’s opening goal on Saturday in their 2-1 win over CS Sfaxien of Tunisia in the return leg final but lost 3-2 on aggregate.
“Mbwana Samatta and Thomas Ulimwengu left Lubumbashi on Sunday by a Kenya Airways flight to Nairobi,” Mazembe stated on its official site.
However the duo arrived too late for Tanzania’s penultimate Group B match against Somalia on the same date that the Kilimanjaro Stars won 1-0.
Meanwhile, Samatta and Ulimwengu’s arrival is a big boost for coach Kim Poulsen who is hoping to seal Tanzania’s quarterfinal passage on Wednesday when they face third placed Burundi in the final Group B match in Nairobi.
Tanzania and Zambia are tied top of Group B on four points, Burundi are a point behind heading into their crucial clash against the Kilimanjaro Stars.
Somalia, who face Zambia in both sides final Group B match on December 4, are bottom on zero points from three games.
