Mauritania national football team will use Rwanda as their training base as they enhance their preparations for the upcoming Africa Nations Championship [CHAN] due in January in South Africa.

The Mourabitounes as they are known by their fans arrived in the country on December 26 and will leave January 7 for South Africa.

Leaving Nouakchott on Wednesday, the Mauritanians will play their first match against Rayon Sports on January 2 in Kigali.

The Mauritanian home-based players will then travel to Uganda for the second friendly match against Uganda Cranes before leaving for South Africa on 3 January.

Mauritania is in group D together with Burundi, Gabon and Democratic Republic of Congo.

For the first time in the history of its football, after 53 years of independence, Mauritania’s team is participating in an international competition, after defeating Liberia and the Lions of Senegal.
