Five hurt in Congo derby violence

Five people, including two police officers, were seriously hurt when violence erupted before Saturday’s Lubumbashi derby between Saint-Eloi Lupopo and TP Mazembe with the game eventually cancelled.
“Two police officers and three supporters were seriously injured,” a police source told AFP, adding that there had also been a number of lighter injuries suffered by others at the game.
Witnesses said that trouble started when both sets of fans started throwing stones and rocks at each other before police moved in, using tear gas to quell the violence.
