Rwandan schools will leave for this year’s East African post-primary games on August 23rd, two days before the tournaments starts in Bujumbura, Burundi.
The schools that will represent the country in the games have been training from their respective schools since August 6, where they will be staying until one day before departing for Bujumbura this Thursday morning.
The official in charge of sports in Rwanda’s Ministry of Education Paterne Rwigema who also will head the Rwandan delegation in Bujumbura confirmed the development on Friday.
He said,” we started earlier our preparations which we hope to will help our representative schools over there in Bujumbura’s games and we think it will work out,”
“Last year, the whole delegation gathered at Lycee de Kigali for a short briefing before leaving for Mbarara (Uganda), this time we shall depart from Group Scolaire Officiel de Butare (GSOB) heading to Bujumbura this Thursday,” added Rwigema.
Rwanda’s delegation to this year’s edition of regional post-primary games will be composed of 19 teams which will compete in six sports categories namely; football, basketball, volleyball, netball, handball, athletics and rugby respectively.
The country will be represented by G.S Remera-Rukoma and Solidarity Academy (girls’ football), APE Rugunga and ESEG Gisenyi (boys’ football), G.S Indangaburezi (volleyball girls), G.S.O.B and Lycee de Nyanza (volleyball boys), St. Joseph Kabgayi (basketball girls), ETENI Gisenyi and lycee de Kigali (basketball boys).
Others are; APAPEGI Gicumbi (handball girls), E.S Kigoma and College de Gisenyi (handball boys), G.S Gahini (handball), two selected teams (girls and boys) in athletics while ISETAR Kamonyi will compete in the boys’ rugby fray.
