Sports and entertainment can act as a way to prevent youth from engaging in drugs and immoral sexual behaviours, according to the Executive secretary of youth Council in Gakenke District Emmanuel Manirere.
With the completion of Busengo youth centre, many youth will be participating in the sports and entertainment instead of going to the bars or idling thus serving the purpose of protecting the youth.
One of the youth in this sector Pontien Nzabamwita said that during the holidays they would lack what to do and move to trading centres to meet their friends and kill time and sometimes be compelled to take a drink with others which would result into being under the influence. The same was said by Nepomuscene Kambari of 25 years who said he started abusing alcohol because of the influence from his company.
But with this youth centre where they can play volley ball and all kinds of entertainment they meet up here and interact instead of going into the bars. Busengo youth centre is the only centre in Gakenke district and many are still needed to protect the youth with the distraction that can be of a positive effect.
