RWANDA GEARS UP TO TAKE ON TO THE BIG STAGE

As the clock ticks before the London Olympics get underway, preparations for the country’s representatives continue to intensify with Rwanda’s torch bearer and Mountain Bike rider Adrien Niyonshuti getting ready to lead the athletes at the opening ceremony on 27th July 2012. Adrien who has been training intensely in Switzerland is expected to travel to England on Thursday morning to join the rest of the athletes.

Two weeks ago, the Rwanda Olympic team was flagged off by the minister for Sports and Culture Hon. Protais Mitali who tasked them with making the country proud by winning medals.

Adrien’s event will be on 12th August where he will be battling it out with the world’s best in mountain bike cycling. Also in the team is Robert Kajuga, who will compete in the 10.000m category, Jean Pierre Mvuyekure (half marathon),Yannick Fred Sekamana (Judo) and Alphosine Agahozo (swimming). Other athletes in the contingent include athletes in boxing, cycling, Taekwondo and the Paralympics team.

The games kick off this Friday the 27th July and end on August 12th while the Paralympics will kick off 29th August until 9th September. The Rwandan Paralympics team has been heavily tipped as the most favorite to win numerous medals.
