Rwanda’s bid to host the 2013 African Junior Athletics championships was approved by the African Athletics Confederation (CAA) assembly held in Benin last weekend.

Though the bid was approved, it will await a verification visit by officials from CAA and IAAF to Rwanda so as to give it a final endorsement.

The verification visit is set to be done in September this year.

The aim of this visit will be aimed at reviewing the host necessities needed to host such a high profile continental event. And some of the requirements that these officials will be looking out for include hotels, stadiums, security, communication systems, training areas to mention but a few.

If approved, this will be another continental championship that Rwanda has hosted after the 2009 U-20 and 2011 U-17 African junior soccer championships, Afro-Basketball championships, cycling events and other tournaments in volleyball and handball.
