Rwanda top seeded Gasigwa Jean Claude has refused to wear the favorite tag at the ongoing classification tennis tournament at Cercle Sportif de Kigali. Gasigwa who has so far advanced to the quarter finals, ruled out an easy ride as he seeks to defend his title as the country’s number one.
Speaking to umukino.com, he said, “In tennis there can be surprises, so you never know how your opponent will be prepared. You have to keep on working harder and harder, otherwise you might be shocked by an early exit.”
He continued, “In Uganda Open it happened to me. I was ousted by someone I should have beaten so easily, so you can’t undermine anyone at this stage.”
The week-long event which was organized by the Rwanda Tennis Federation brings together tennis clubs from all corners of the country in different categories. In boys’ category, the seniors and under 16’s will battle it out, while in girls’ category only the seniors will compete for honors. It is the first time such a competition has been held in the country.
