The volleyball game intended to commemorate players, leaders of volleyball teams and fans who were killed in the 1994 genocide against Tutsi has been postponed due to lack of funds from their partner National Commission for the Fight against Genocide (GNLG).

This competing game that is done only in 2 days was supposed to be on 2nd & 3rd. June. 2012 but they wrote to CNLG and they waiting for their response though it seems they got the date when it is late as Geltulde Kubwimana explained.

“Teams that were supposed to participate in this competition were informed about the change in the dates and we are still hoping the competition will carry on as planned though we don’t know when as we are still in the 100 days of commemorating.” Geltulde Kubwimana went on to say.

Kubwimana said that they want the 2012 competition to be attended by many teams and to increase awards so as to make it stronger.

This competition that happens every year has been holding teams that play in champions here in Rwanda and in outside Rwanda especially in this region. Teams from Congo Brazzaville, Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania have already confirmed to participate in the 2012 competition.

In 2011 before starting the competition, a documentary film of sports men that died in genocide and players visited Kigali genocide memorial on Gisozi. APR team for men took the cup and RRA team for women won the game.
