Rwanda Amateur Boxing Association, RABA, plans to hold a three-day boxing championship starting Friday the 29th June 2012, which will bring together four boxing clubs in the country. The championship which will include all boxing categories will be held at Lycee de Kigali in Kigali from 2.00 pm.
In an interview, RABA President Cyatwa Ngarambe called for a large turn out to the event which he promised will be entertaining.
He said, “The tournament will be exciting, there’s no doubt. We would like people to come and see for themselves the level of boxers we have in the country. We have four clubs which will participate for the three days, which will entail elimination in the first two days then the final day will be the decisive day.”
He went on to say, “Boxing matches don’t take long and as a result we expect the competition to end early enough. Each category will be represented by more than one participant.”
Boxing in the country has been on a quiet note for some time and the championship is a sure way of reviving the sport that was once vibrant in the country and in the region as a whole.
