In Kumite individual events SHYIRAMBERE Jean Paul scooped the silver medal in male under 60 Kg category.

In Kumite events female category, Kenya proved too strong for the Rwandan team going home with all the first three positions. The overall best judge and referee went to Rwanda’s Bigango Valentin, who is also a second Dan.

All in all it was an impressive performance from Rwanda which had fielded two teams for the first time at the championships.

The events were the 8th edition and are held on an annual basis with the winner representing the zone in Africa Karate Championships that are held every two years.
