Rwanda will be hosts to this year’s African Confederation of Volleyball (CAVB) Continental Cup in women beach volleyball set for May 24-26 in Rubavu, Northern Province.
The local volleyball federation has already kicked off preparations for this month’s tournament.
Beach volleyball chairman Alexis Mbaraga said, “We are working under the clock to prepare an effective team which will win the event,”
Players in camp include Uwineza Emilienne, Hakizimana Judith, Mutatsimpundu Denise, Charlotte and Iragena Jeannette.
However, Mbaraga said that only two players will be selected for the competition.
The countries expected to spice up the event include Algeria, Morocco, Kenya, Democratic Republic of Congo, Mauritius, Mozambique, South Africa and hosts Rwanda.
Top CAVB officials, Dr Elwani Amr (President) and Madam Maya who is in charge Beach Volleyball will attend the competition.
The tournament’s winner will march to represent Africa at the summer’s London Olympic while the first runner-up will earn an automatic qualification to compete at the World Cup of beach Volleyball.
