On the 27th –May-2012, Rwanda will host the International peace marathon, a running competition organized by the Rwandan Federation of Athletics (RFA) in partnership with the Ministry of Sports and Culture. It will be the 8th time the marathon will be taking place.
According to a statement from the Rwandan federation of athletics, ongoing Marathon preparations are going perfectly.
“The Ministry of Sports and Culture committed 40 million Rwf to the marathon, but we plan to use 65 million. The marathon will sensitise awareness among youth, about pressing issues like drug abuse,” said Johnson Rukundo, from the Rwanda Federation of athletics.
Rukundo called upon people to register for participation in the Marathon.
So far, countries such as Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, and Ethiopia have already confirmed their participation.
The International Marathon for Peace will be held at Amahoro National Stadium. Participants will run 42 kilometers while will walk 21 km, half the marathon.
