Rwanda’s rally driver Davite Giancarlo heads to Lusaka on Monday ahead of the Puma Energy Zambia International Rally set to run May 11-13th 2012.
Giancarlo who leaves aboard South African airways this morning said on Sunday that he will be targeting to win the title as well as clinch precious points that would help him win the Africa rally championship title.
“I want to score as many points as possible such that i can remain in contention for the ARC title.”
“I am expecting a tough challenge from Mohammed Essa because he will be driving on home soil and he is also my main competitor this year,”
“But as usual am looking forward to give him a hard run for the title as i also try to display a good performance.” added confident Davite.
Puma Energy Zambia International Rally is the third stage of the 2012 African Rally Championship (ARC) in which Zambian driver Mohamed Essa is currently leading with 27 points, two points ahead of Zimbabwean Jesse Watson and Mark Cronje of South Africa.
Giancarlo is in fourth place with 22 points while Zimbabwean pair of Craig Green and South African Jan Habig stand in fifth place with 18 points apiece.
Jon Williams and Charl Wilken both of South Africa are seventh and eighth with 15 and eight points, respectively.
This year’s event is similar to last year’s event although some stages have been changed. The Rally will run in the Farms of Chisamba, North of Lusaka.
The course will cover a total distance of approximately 600 kms of which 254 kms is made up of Competitive sections. The Rally conditions are expected to be dry but cool.
The Rally will start with a Super Special Stage at Lusaka Motor Club on Friday 11th May 2012.
On Saturday 12th May, the Rally moves to Chisamba which is about 50 kms due North of Lusaka.
The leg then ends back at Rally Hotel HQ in Lusaka and cars will be kept over night there. The second leg runs three stages that are repeated around the same area (Barn Resorts/Airport area).
The event finishes back in Lusaka at the Hotel Intercontinental on Sunday, May 13th.
