Rwanda’s Habiyambere Nicodem finished 24th in stage one of the ongoing Tropicale Amissa Bongo cycling tournament that kicked off Tuesady in Gabon. France’s Yahan Gene emerged victorious at this stage while Nicodem was the best performer in team Rwanda.

The ninety-kilometer stage stretched from Fougamou to Lambarene and Yohan of Europecar team completed the distance in 2hrs 4min 22 sec, and was closely followed by Moroccan Adil Jelloul who finished second in 2hrs 4min 25 sec.

Nicodem who finished ahead of all his teammates completed the race in 2hrs 4 min 32 sec, with only fractions of seconds marking congested and hotly contested positions between 5th and 28th. Other participants in team Rwanda include Ruhumuriza Abraham who finished 35th, Biziyaremye Joseph who finished 36th, Rudahunga Emmanuel who finished 38th and Hadi Janvier and Byukusenge Nathan who finished 54th and 80th respectively.

The race continues this Wednesday in stage 2 as the cyclers leave Lambarene to Ndjole, a distance of 130km. A total of ninety participants are taking part in the race and they will be looking to win it when they complete the six stages.
