After long spouts of internal wrangles, the Rwanda Athletics Federation is seeking to hold elections to have a one body that will oversee its day to day activities. Interested applicants have started giving their candidatures to run for the available posts with the top most spot a priority.
The ethics commission that is within the National Olympics Committee is the one that is currently receiving the applications of interested candidates.
The Rwandan Athletics governing body has had its share of internal wrangles, with two prominent persons claiming to head the federation. Both Louis Rurangirwa and Alexander Kayitsinga claim to be the recognized presidents of RAF. However, it is Kayitsinga’s faction of the federation that is recognized by the Ministry of Sports as well as the National Olympic Committee, although in the past the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) had overruled the domestic athletics governing bodies by declaring Louis Rurangirwa as the recognized president of RAF.
