RWANDAN ATHLETES IN ISTANBUL, TURKEY
In spite of the internal wrangles within the Rwanda Athletics Federation, the Rwandan Athletics team has managed to participate in the 2012 World Indoor Championships that are taking place in Turkey. Rwanda is represented by Claudette MUKASAKINDI and Robert KAJUGA. Both will be competing in the 3000m race for women and men respectively.
The championships which will be held in Istanbul, Turkey are the 14th of its kind, with lucrative cash awards of US$ 40,000, US$ 20,000 and US$ 10,000 for the gold, silver and bronze winners respectively.
The Rwandan Athletics governing body has had its share of internal wrangles, with two prominent persons claiming to head the federation. Both Louis Rurangirwa and Alexander Kayitsinga claim to be the recognized presidents of RAF.
