Two teams will leave Kigali today to represent the country in two important athletics events, the African Cross Country Championship due to be held in Cape Town South Africa on the 18th March and the Rome International Marathon that will be held in Rome, Italy the same day.
The team heading to South Africa for the Cross Country Championships is consisted of: KAJUGA Robert, NZABONIMPA Evariste, NIZEYIMANA Alexis, SEBAHIRE Eric, UWAJENEZA Jean Marie Vianney and RUTAYISIRE Godffrey. They will be accompanied by their coach RWABUHIHI Innocent.
An uphill task on the other hand faces the team that will be participating in Rome International Marathon as they will be seeking to attain the minima required to participate in this year’s Olympic Games that will be held in London, England. Having failed to secure these minima in the recently concluded IAAF Indoor Championships that were held in Turkey, this will be the last chance for the team to pull out a performance that will salvage the image of the country. And coach MURENZI Emmanuel has put together a strong team consisted of NYIRABARAME Epiphanie, MVUYEKURE Jean Pierre, NTIRENGANYA Felix and TWAHIRWA Fred.
This is the second outing for the Rwanda Athletes in a span of less than 10 days, the most recent being in the just concluded IAAF Indoor Championships in which they failed to impress, results many pundits attribute to the internal wrangles that have marred the Rwanda Athletics Federation.
