Rwanda : RWANDAN ATHLETES FAIL TO SHINE IN TURKEY

Thu, Mar 15, 2012

Athlétisme, English

Rwandan athletes failed to produce a satisfactory performance at the ongoing IAAF Indoor Championships in Istanbul, Turkey. Both KAJUGA Robert and MUKASAKINDI Claudette who were both participating in 3000m men and women categories respectively, failed to secure the required minima that will guarantee them participation in this year’s Olympic Games that will take place in London, England.

The result means the athletes will have to try to obtain the minima somewhere else, mostly at the Rome Marathon that will take place starting 18th March this year. Failure to do so will mean Rwanda’s dream of participating in the London Olympics in athletism will be an elusive one, with only Adrien Niyonshuti in cycling having attained the required minima.

The Rome Marathon is expected to draw close to 100,000 runners on the streets of the city and will start at 9am from the Via dei Fori Imperiali. The Marathon is a prestigious one as it is certified with “IAAF Gold Label Road Race”, the highest recognition awarded by the International Association of Athletics Federations.
