Six players have taken off today heading for Morocco for this year’s Tour du Maroc that will be held from 23rd March to 1st April 2012. The race is among the events that feature on UCI (Union Cycliste Internationale)’s calendar and is expected to draw participants from all corners of the planet.
According to a statement from FERWACY, the country’s cycling running body; the six players who will represent the country are Ruhumuriza Abraham, Habiyambere Nicodem, Gasore Hategeka, Byukusenge Nathan, Biziyaremye Jeseph and Bintunimana Emile.
The team is expected to pull a strong performance in this prestigious tournament with the players – apart from Habiyambere and Gasore who have been training in South Africa – having been training intensively in Musanze district Northern Province.
The ten-day race is a UCI recognized tournament and is the 25th of its kind. It is also part of the Africa Tour and is rated as 2.2 on the UCI classification scale. Participants will be expected to cover a total distance of 1626km in ten stages.
