The Rwanda men’s handball team missed a golden opportunity to grab their first win against the hosts Kenya at the ongoing East and Central Africa Championships at Moi International Sports Center Kasarani. The match was highly charged with constant weaknesses at the defense of the Kenya team, and at the break it was inevitably the hosts who sighed in relief as they trailed 16-14.

And just when it seemed Rwanda was heading for an historic victory, Kenya’s captain Jerry Ogallo saved Kenya some blushes when he scored a fast break in the last minute to level the scores 36-36 at the final whistle.

Rwanda faces a daunting task of winning the title having lost their opening fixture against Uganda. In other results, Uganda claimed their second successive victory to beat Tanzania. Today’s fixtures will see Burundi battling it out with Uganda while Rwanda will face Tanzania.
