G.S.O Butare team captain receiving the trophy
Legendary Volleyball players from different schools in the Southern Province participated in a competition to commemorate the legendary catholic priest in Butare.
Late Father Emmanuel Kayumba was the headmaster of Groupe Scolaire Officielle de Butare (G.S.O.B). The priest was and also remembered for his commitment to promoting the sport in the country.
G.S.O Butare triumphed at the competition after winning all its games followed by National University of Rwanda, Lycee de Nyanza in the 3rd position and Petit Seminaire Karubanda came fourth.
The memorial games in honor of church priest were held on Saturday February 11th in Huye district, with four out of eight teams participating at the lively competition
The Headmaster of G.S.O.B, Fr. Pierre Céléstin Rwirangira said that though not all the invited teams participated, the game was a success with the few teams present.
All the participating teams were awarded volleyballs and best team-G.S.O Butare which came in the 1st place received a trophy and volleyballs.
Priest Rwirangira disclosed that in order to add value to the competition, they will collaborate with the national volleyball federation in Rwanda (FRVB) to include the competition in the pre-season tournament ahead of the national volleyball Champion’s league.
He added on that “the competition in memory of late Kayumba will be organized every year whereby they will even invite teams from outside Rwanda to make it more competitive”.
This was the 2nd competition in memory of late Emmanuel Kayumba. The first completion was won by the National University of Rwanda (NUR).
